They say that prednisone is a wonder drug that keeps people alive, which is true, but the side effects can be and are daunting. Prednisone erodes your muscles making them into mush. You can gain the cursed prednisone pounds that can attach to you just by looking at food and sniffing it. People are known to easily gain 50 to 75 pounds on prednisone. How, you are wondering? With prednisone, you feel like you never ate. Your body tells you, feed me now. I am starving. You get to the point that any and all things look edible. Mind you, if you didn't eat your veggies before, you will now. I won't mention desserts. Five of everything wouldn't even fill your bucket less stomach, but your bottom and hips would know.
Here is a prime example. We were driving back from a medical appointment at Albany Med., when I remarked that I was hungry and could eat a horse. Lo and behold, as I gazed out the window, but what to my wondering eyes appeared, but a cow placidly grazing. I piped up and said,"Pull over now, there is a cow and since, I am sooo hungry, we can have a barbecue."
I had read somewhere, where a couple of fellows had devised a plan to cook food using their car. They had packed up their food in tinfoil and secured it to the motor and several hours later after reaching their destination, they had a tasty meal waiting without any muss or fuss. I believe they were thinking about writing a book about their cooking escapades a la motor. Meanwhile, my thoughts were engaged in the process of getting that cow firmly placed on my motor and adding a little tangy barbecue sauce. By the time I reached home, I would have so many choices of tender meat that I knew, I would have to try them all out. So, what side of the beef did I want? Oh, I'll take it all. That's the prednisone talking. Needless to say, Betsy the Cow continued chewing her lunch as my prednisone mind fixated on what was available in my refrig.
May your refrig. be filled with edibles you love. May you miss the prednisone side effects. Happy eating!!!
